This is Griffy, whose formal name is Gryffindor, named after one of the four houses at Hogwarts. We adopted him when he was two, and he's become the sweetest, most loving kitty we ever had. He sleeps curled up in my son's legs each night, on his bed when my son is away, and hangs out in the office with us when we're working from home.

He enjoys curling up on the couch and watching football with the guys on Sunday and hanging out on our screened-in porch where he can watch the squirrels and birds all day long.

Layla Beans plays fetch with a sparkly ball that fell off an ugly Christmas sweater. She also has an unhealthy obsession with spinach.

Oscar is a big fluffball of nerves and love. What he lacks in social skills, he makes up for in cuteness. He also chews plastic.

I never thought I'd own a cat since I'm highly allergic, but not to this one. (My wife and I have a theory about grey tuxedos). He's not hypoallergenic, but a stray born under an abandoned house near a friend. The momma cat went missing presumed run over, and Mowgli's brothers Baloo and Bagheera were found first. Mowgli was so weak when our friend found him, she had to carry him in a handbag for weeks, feeding him milk from a dropper.

Now look at him 18 months later -- a huge 10 lb cat, super silky fur, very feisty (jealous of our interest in Apple products, hence the sitting on the laptop) and extremely loving. He will sit in anyone's lap in a heartbeat, purring and trilling like a bird. Favorite hobby: licking anything.

Her name is Darcy, no reference to Ms. Austen intended. She's a year old. I adopted her from the ASPCA in Manhattan last July. She plays fetch, rides in a backpack and has been featured twice on The Fluffington Post.

So dis is ma kitteh. His name is Noel and, much like his father, loves newspapers. He's 2 years old. I rescued him off of I-95 in Savannah when he was just 6 weeks old and he's been with me ever since.

Here's my kitty taking a good nap on me. Her name is Kitty, though technically our cat is named "Bojangles" but goes by Kitty. She wouldn't even know her own name :)

Here at Mashable we can’t decide if we love cats for the way they play with tech, how emotional they can be or maybe just because they think they can haz newz. But we’re done questioning our love for cats, because when we found out Monday is National Cat Day, we were pawsitivly ecstatic.

Founded in 2005 as a day to bring awareness to the millions of sheltered cats in need of a good home, National Cat Day is celebrated on Oct. 29. Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige hopes that National Cat Day will help facilitate the adoption of more than 10,000 sheltered cats nationwide.

To show our support (and to get back at our co-workers who get to bring their dogs to work in this dog-friendly office), we’d like to introduce you to our family of MashCats. If you want to have your cat become an honorary member of our family of furry felines, tweet us your purr-fect photos with the hashtag http://feeds.mashable.com/http://feeds.mashable.com/http://feeds.mashable.com/http://feeds.mashable.com/http://feeds.mashable.com/http://feeds.mashable.com/http://feeds.mashable.com/#mashcats. Tell us their name and age and we’ll publish some of the pictures we get in a future post!
