NBC to Air and Live Stream Sandy Relief Telethon

Hurricane Sandy victims rescued

Hurricane Sandy blew a wave of devastation across the East Coast, with millions affected, and huge portions of New York and New Jersey facing months of cleanup and rebuilding. Now NBCUniversal is taking an active role in the relief effort with a special, televised and live streamed telethon this Friday at 8 p.m. ET.

Today Show host Matt Lauer will host the telethon, which can be watched on all of NBCUniversal’s networks (NBC, Bravo, CNBC, E!, G4, MSNBC, Style, Syfy and USA) and live at NBC.com. Schedule performers include Sting, New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen, and Bon Jovi.

Money collection on the phones and online will, according to a release from NBCUniversal, go to the Red Cross Relief Efforts for Hurricane Sandy. The telethon joins the efforts of Apple iTunes, which today unveiled a Hurricane Sandy Relief center on the iTunes Store and dozens of other grass-roots efforts.

To donate directly to the Red Cross, you can visit http://feeds.mashable.com/www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
